Honest Talk About Masturbation

Q. Please speak broadly with me on a personal note please on masturbation and sexual purity please. I need honesty and someone to be real with me on this issue please.

A. People try make verses fit this issue, but in my opinion the Bible is silent concerning masturbation. It does speak against looking upon another person with lustful intent, but even that was given in the context of the impossibility of refraining from sin.

If you are a born again Christian then God has forgiven all the sins of your life, even those you haven’t committed yet. If your concept of sexual purity includes refraining from masturbation, and you want to remain pure to please the Lord then ask him for the strength to do so. Paul said that not everyone is capable of this. (1 Cor. 7:7-9)

But if you’re trying to remain pure to somehow make yourself more worthy in the Lord’s sight, you should consider the fact that Jesus has covered all your impurities with His blood and as far as God is concerned, you’re as righteous as He is. (2 Cor. 5:21)

Resist the devil and he will flee from you, James wrote (James 4:7) It’s obviously better if you don’t masturbate, if only to avoid the guilt and/or embarrassment you feel afterward. But if you stumble, ask the Lord to forgive you and He will. Remember If you’re faithful to confess, He is faithful and just and will forgive your sins and purify you from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
